Parisi Udvar Hotel 5*
One of the most exclusive and iconic buildings in Budapest is located in one of the city's most luxurious hotels—at the corner of modern-day Ferenciek tere and PetÅ‘fi Sándor Street. At the time, the square was known as Kígyó Square, and the street was called Koronaherceg Street. The original building was designed for Baron József Brudern by Mihály Pollack, the architect of the Hungarian National Museum. When construction was completed in 1817, people began calling the building "Párisi Udvar" or "Párisi House."
Baron József Brudern lived on the second floor, while a total of 32 shops (16 on each side) were located on the ground floor. These shops were among the most elegant and luxurious in Budapest. It is believed that the stunning, breathtaking building was designed by Pollack as a model of the Parisian "Passage des Panoramas"—which is where it got its name. Párisi Udvar was one of the first buildings with an interior arcade that housed several shops of various types.
Since 1893, due to the reconstruction of the Erzsébet Bridge, the circumstances surrounding local properties changed, and new palaces were built in place of the old residences. The Belvárosi Takarékpénztár (Central Savings Bank) purchased the Párisi House in 1906, and a year later, in 1907, they submitted a proposal for a new palace to be built in place of the existing structure.
The Central Savings Bank commissioned Henrik Schmahl to design the new Párisi Udvar. Schmahl’s concept was approved in 1909, and reconstruction began that same summer. Construction was nearly completed by 1912, but unfortunately, Schmahl never saw his dream realized—he passed away in Dresden a few months before the building was completed due to serious complications following an earlier surgery. After his death, Pál Lipták completed the project based on Schmahl’s original concept.
During World War II, in 1944–45, when Germany occupied Budapest, the eclectic building—adorned with ornate decorations and elements of Art Nouveau and Eastern styles—suffered severe damage, particularly the grand treasury hall of the Central Savings Bank.
In the reconstruction of the 1950s, the Art Nouveau interior of the Central Savings Bank was replaced with more modern and simplified interior design solutions. The old bank spaces were repurposed for IBUSZ and Jégbüfé.
IBUSZ is a world-renowned Hungarian travel agency founded in 1902, and Jégbüfé is a traditional pastry shop that became a major player in the market starting in 1952.
Now, in 2019, the building enters its third incarnation—as the luxurious Párisi Udvar Hotel. The elegant guest rooms are designed and inspired by many aspects of Budapest’s culture: from the building’s architecture with its mixed geometry and vibrant green Zsolnay tiles, to the majestic Danube River flowing nearby, and the avant-garde spirit of Hungarian artists in Paris during the early 1900s. Many authentic styles form the foundation of the hotel’s interior design.
The hotel features 110 exquisitely appointed rooms, including 18 elegant suites and 2 opulent luxury residences.
Included in the stay are the following amenities: free Wi-Fi, wall-mounted USB ports, LCD TV with satellite channels, air conditioning, in-room electronic safe, luxury bathrobe, rainforest shower, slippers, hairdryer, and iron/ironing board available upon request. All rooms are non-smoking!
The hotel offers four conference rooms with capacities ranging from 10 to 160 people, all equipped with modern audio-visual technology and free Wi-Fi.
